Eleven Plus Academy (rayos11plus.com) is an 11+ exam preparation app for children aged 9–11, used under the supervision of a parent or guardian who manages the subscription. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email support@rayos11plus.com.
Your child's practice history, scores and progress are stored in your own browser (local storage). If you subscribe to Premium, a backup copy is also kept in our cloud storage so you can restore it on another device. We don't require an account or collect your child's full name, date of birth, school, or address. We use the parent's email address to run your free trial and subscription, to send the codes and links you ask for, and to send a short series of trial reminders and 11+ tips — you can unsubscribe from those at any time. A few features send content to trusted third parties to work (see below), and none of them are allowed to use your data for their own marketing. The one exception is our optional “How it works” video: if you press play, YouTube handles that under its own privacy policy (see Cookies below).
| Data | Where it's stored | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Child's practice answers, scores, mastery progress, streaks | Your device (browser local storage). For Premium subscribers, also backed up in our cloud storage (Upstash) | To run the app, show progress, and restore it on a new device |
| Parent's email address and the child's first name entered at sign-up | Our cloud storage (Upstash) | To track your one free trial, and to personalise the reminder and tips emails described below |
| For Premium subscribers: a random ID for each device you have signed in on (up to three), and which version of the app each one last saved progress from | Your device, and our cloud storage (Upstash) | To keep Premium to your own family's devices, and so we can see when a device is still on an old version of the app |
| Parent's email address | Stripe (our payment processor) | To manage your subscription, billing, and let you cancel via the Stripe customer portal |
| Parent's email address; your child's first name where an email uses it; and, in the optional weekly progress email, the progress summary itself | Resend (our email provider) | To deliver emails: restore codes, subscription links, the optional weekly progress email, and trial reminders/tips |
| For exam alerts: your email address, which school or area guides you asked about and when you confirmed | Our cloud storage (Upstash); the emails go through Resend | To email you when that school publishes new 11+ dates (see “Emails from us”) |
| Your internet (IP) address | Our cloud storage (Upstash). For a few hours it is held in counters that limit how often the app's services can be called. A scrambled, one-way version (not the address itself) is kept with your free-trial record and in daily usage counters for up to two days | To stop the service being abused or run up by one caller, and to recognise the device a free trial was started on |
| Photos of homework, written answers and writing, and a story your child types into the app for marking (Homework Helper, comprehension and creative writing marking) | Sent to Anthropic's Claude API to be read and marked; not stored by us | To generate marking and feedback |
| Marks and short next steps from writing and comprehension marking (not the writing itself) | Your device, as part of your child's progress. For Premium subscribers, also in the cloud backup (Upstash) | To show progress over time |
| Hoot's written feedback on the last 12 marked pieces per child (no photos). It can quote a few words from your child's work | Your device only, for 90 days. Not in the cloud backup and not sent anywhere | So you can read the feedback again in the Progress Report |
| My words in the Spelling Bee: a photo of a spelling list, or typed words | The photo is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to read the words and is not stored by us. The words, and a short meaning and example written for each by Anthropic's Claude API, are kept with your child's progress (your device, and the cloud backup for Premium subscribers). A practice sentence your child writes is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to be checked and is not stored by us or kept in the app | To build your child's own spelling list and practise it over time |
| The words Hoot read from the last 5 marked pieces of writing per child, with the marks given | Your device only, for 90 days. Sent to Anthropic's Claude API with the next piece of writing to be marked; not stored by us | So a second photo of the same writing gets the same marks, and a revised piece is marked against the earlier one |
| The text of your child's questions to Hoot (Ask Hoot, Teach Me), a typed homework question or writing task, a word looked up in the Dictionary, and Topic Trainer requests (subject, topic, level, and the wording of a few recent practice questions so they are not repeated; these are questions the app wrote, not anything your child typed) | Sent to Anthropic's Claude API to write the reply; not stored by us | To answer the question or write a practice question |
| Practice numbers and your child's first name, when you open the Progress Report and, if you have opted in to the weekly progress email, once a week from your Premium backup | Sent to Anthropic's Claude API to write the summary; not stored by us | To write the parent summary |
| Your child's voice, in Drive Time and “Talk to Hoot” | Handled by your browser's own speech recognition (see “Voice features” below); we never receive or store the audio | To turn spoken answers into text |
| Text that Hoot reads aloud (questions, explanations and Hoot's replies) | Sent to ElevenLabs to generate audio | To provide spoken narration |
| “This looks wrong” reports and automatic fault signals | Our cloud storage (Upstash) | So we can check and fix questions, answers and bugs (see “AI in this app” below) |
| Technical error/crash reports | Sentry | To find and fix bugs — this does not include your child's answers or personal details |
| Ad click/conversion data | Google Ads (cookies only with your consent; without it, Google receives only anonymised, cookieless signals that a visit or purchase happened) | To measure whether our advertising is working |
Professor Hoot's help is written by artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude). These features use AI:
The main practice questions, the mock exam questions and the non-verbal reasoning puzzles are not AI-generated on the spot — they come from our own question bank.
AI can be wrong. It can misread handwriting, make a slip in a sum, or mark too kindly or too harshly. That is why these screens carry a small note: “Hoot uses AI and can sometimes get things wrong — check with a grown-up if something looks odd.” AI marking is a guide for practice, not an official mark.
The text of your child's question (or the photo or typed story, for marking) is sent to Anthropic so it can write the reply. It is sent without your child's name, your email address or any account identifier, and it is not used to identify your child. If your child types a personal detail by mistake — a phone number, email address, postcode, street address, web link or social media username — it is filtered out on your device before the question or typed story is sent, and Hoot tells them it left that bit out. Our server runs the same filter again as a second check. The filter works on typed text; it cannot remove something written in a photo. The one place a first name is sent is the parent Progress Report, so the summary can refer to your child by name.
Next to practice questions, Hoot's answers and marking results there is a “🚩 This looks wrong” button. Tapping it and choosing a reason (“Answer is wrong”, “Doesn't make sense” or “Not suitable”) sends us the reason together with either the question's ID (for our own questions) or a short snippet of Hoot's own text — never your child's name or a photo, and nothing your child typed, except that Hoot's marking feedback can itself quote a few words from the work it marked. There is no box for your child to type into. The owner of Eleven Plus Academy reviews these reports and corrects or removes anything that is wrong or unsuitable.
The app also reports a few technical faults by itself, so we hear about bugs before you have to tell us: a feature failing or timing out, two voices talking at once, a “Hoot is thinking…” message that never finishes, or a button that does nothing when tapped. Each signal is a short label for the fault and the screen it happened on (for example “stuck loading: Topic Trainer”). They contain no personal data — no names, no answers, nothing your child typed.
To see where families get stuck, the app sends a one-word note the first time a child passes a few steps: answering a first question, answering ten on the first day, coming back on another day, and still practising a week later (plus a note each time the Progress Report is opened). Our server also counts free trials started and visits to the payment page. Each note only adds one to that day's total for that step. Nothing else is sent or kept with it — no name, no email address, no device or account identifier, no answers — and the app works the steps out from the practice record it already keeps, so nothing extra is stored on your device. The daily totals are kept for up to 400 days.
Drive Time and “Talk to Hoot” let your child answer out loud. They use the speech recognition that is built into your browser, and only after you allow the microphone. In some browsers (for example Chrome and Safari) the browser sends the voice audio to the browser's maker (Google or Apple) to turn it into text, under that company's own privacy policy. We never receive or store the audio — our app only gets the text the browser hands back. In Drive Time that text is used on your device to check the answer; in “Talk to Hoot” it is sent to Hoot in the same way as a typed question.
We take the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) Children's Code seriously. In practice, that means:
When you enter your email to start a free trial, we'll send a short series of three or four emails over about two weeks: a welcome, a reminder before your trial ends, and a couple of 11+ tips with an offer to upgrade. Every one has an unsubscribe link, and we stop as soon as you use it or subscribe. We never send these to your child, and we never share your email with anyone for their own marketing.
Free sample paper. If you enter your email to download a free sample paper, we send you one email with a link back to that paper. We keep your email address and which paper you chose for up to 12 months. We only send 11+ tips and offers if you tick the box and then confirm it from the link in that email: three short emails over about a week, each with an unsubscribe link.
Year 5 baseline check. If you enter your email at the end of the free baseline check, we send you one email with the results. We keep your email address, your child's first name if you gave it, and the score in each of the three subjects, for up to 12 months; we do not keep the individual answers. So that a second go shows different questions, the page notes on your own device which of its two question sets was shown last; that note is not sent to us. We only send 11+ tips and offers if you tick the box and then confirm it from the link in that email: three short emails over about a week, each with an unsubscribe link.
Separately, subscribers can turn a weekly progress email on or off from the Progress Report screen, and we'll send one-off codes and links when you ask for them (for example, to restore progress or manage your subscription).
If a friend shares a “free week” link with you, we record which link you used, so the trial is the right length, and a scrambled, one-way note that your address used that link (not the address itself), kept for up to 24 months.
Exam alerts. On our school and area guides you can ask for an email when that school publishes new 11+ dates (registration, test dates, results). We first send one email asking you to confirm; until you do, we keep nothing. Once you confirm, we keep your address on that school's list and email you only when there is news about its 11+ dates; we never use it for anything else, and every alert has a link to stop them (one school, or all). We keep the address until you stop the alerts or ask us to delete it. The alerts are written by us from the school's published information; they do not come from the school.
Trustpilot review invitation. About two weeks after you subscribe, we send subscribing parents one email inviting you to review us on Trustpilot. It is a single email, it has an unsubscribe link, and leaving a review is entirely up to you.
We use a small number of cookies:
The “How it works” video. Our 70-second tour of the app is hosted on YouTube. The app shows our own still picture of it, and nothing is loaded from YouTube until you tap play. When you do, the video plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com): YouTube (Google) then receives your device's IP address and basic browser and device details, and may store information in your browser, under its own privacy policy rather than ours. If you'd rather not, just don't press play.
Google Ads conversion measurement. If you arrive by clicking one of our Google ads, the link carries a click ID from Google. With your consent, Google's tag stores that click ID in a cookie so that a later sign-up or purchase can be counted as a conversion for that ad. We do not use it to build a profile of you or your child. Also only with your consent, the app keeps that click ID on your device for up to 90 days and sends it to us with your free-trial sign-up, where it is kept with your trial record so a sign-up can be matched to the ad that led to it. Separately, the app keeps a simple note on your device of how you first found us (for example “Google ad” or “a friend's link”) and sends that note with your sign-up and checkout, so we can see which channels bring families to us. When a purchase is reported to Google Ads it carries the plan's price and a scrambled reference that stops the same payment being counted twice — not your email address or your payment details.
Data stored in your browser stays there until you clear your browser's site data or uninstall the app — we have no way to access or delete it remotely, because we never receive it.
What we hold ourselves is deleted automatically:
You can ask us to delete any of this sooner (see “Your rights” below). If you unsubscribe from our emails, we keep a note of your address only so we never email you again. Stripe retains standard billing records per their own policy (typically required for tax/accounting purposes). Sentry error logs are retained for a limited period (typically 30–90 days) and then deleted automatically.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Since most data lives only on your own device, the simplest way to delete it is clearing your browser's site data for rayos11plus.com. For anything held by us or our processors (e.g. your sign-up email, your Premium progress backup, or your billing email in Stripe), email support@rayos11plus.com and we'll action your request within 30 days.
Deleting your data. Email us from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete your data. To be sure the request really comes from you, we confirm it with a six-digit code sent to that email address. Once it is confirmed we delete everything our own storage holds for that address: your sign-up details, your trial record, your Premium progress backup, your list of signed-in devices and your place on our email lists. Two things remain: a note that your address has unsubscribed, if it has, so we never email it again; and the date your free trial started, kept in a scrambled form that can't be turned back into your email address, so the free trial can't simply be taken again. Billing records held by Stripe are removed separately on request, where the law allows.
You also have the right to complain to the ICO if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.
Some of the third parties we use (Stripe, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Google (including YouTube), Sentry, Netlify, Upstash, Resend) may process data outside the UK/EEA, including in the United States. Each of these providers maintains its own compliance mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
We may update this policy from time to time as the app changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
