We check the official admissions pages every morning. When registration, test dates or results are announced, we'll send you a short email saying what changed and where to find it. We use your address for nothing else.

The three papers

EnglishA GL Assessment English paper. The school does not publish its length or the number of questions.
MathsA GL Assessment Maths paper. The school does not publish its length or the number of questions.
Verbal ReasoningA GL Assessment paper. The school says it looks at how a girl processes verbal information, identifies patterns, sees similarities and differences between words, shows the rules and meaning of language, and applies logical thinking.

How long are the papers?

Blackheath High does not publish how long each paper lasts or how many questions it has. Our Blackheath-style mock uses 45 minutes for English, 45 for Maths and 40 for Verbal Reasoning. Those lengths are our own estimate, so your child gets used to working at a steady pace.

What the school says about preparing

The school's booklet says it does not advise excessive preparation for the papers, but that familiarising your child with the format of the papers is a useful exercise. It points families to GL Assessment's own free familiarisation materials.

After the papers

Girls on the longlist are invited to a friendly, informal interview so the school can get to know them. For 2028 entry these dates are not yet published. This year the interviews are on Saturday 9 January 2027, results are posted home on Monday 1 February 2027 and the acceptance deadline is noon on Wednesday 3 March 2027.

Five Blackheath High-style sample questions

These are our own questions, written in the style of the papers so you can see the level. They are not taken from any real paper. Tap a question to see the answer and the method.

1. A ribbon 3.6 m long is cut into 8 equal pieces. How long is each piece?
  • A) 0.4 m
  • B) 4.5 m
  • C) 0.48 m
  • D) 0.45 m
Answer: D) 0.45 m. Divide 3.6 by 8. 36 ÷ 8 = 4.5, so 3.6 ÷ 8 = 0.45. Each piece is 0.45 m long.
2. What is 35% of 80?
  • A) 24
  • B) 26
  • C) 28
  • D) 32
Answer: C) 28. 10% of 80 is 8, so 30% is 24. 5% is half of 10%, which is 4. Add them: 24 + 4 = 28.
3. Which sentence uses the apostrophe correctly?
  • A) The dog wagged it's tail
  • B) The girls' coats were hung up
  • C) Two bus's were late
  • D) Her's was the red one
Answer: B) The girls' coats were hung up. The coats belong to more than one girl, so the apostrophe goes after the s: girls'. "It's" means "it is", plurals such as buses need no apostrophe, and "hers" never has one.
4. Which word is most opposite in meaning to scarce?
  • A) plentiful
  • B) rare
  • C) small
  • D) empty
Answer: A) plentiful. Scarce means there is very little of something. Plentiful means there is a lot of it. Rare is close in meaning to scarce, not opposite.
5. Which pair of letters comes next? BD, EG, HJ, KM, ...
  • A) LN
  • B) NO
  • C) NP
  • D) MP
Answer: C) NP. Each letter moves on three places. The first letters go B, E, H, K, N and the second letters go D, G, J, M, P. The next pair is NP.
