Get an email when Redbridge publishes new 11+ dates

We check the official admissions pages every morning. When registration, test dates or results are announced, we'll send you a short email saying what changed and where to find it. We use your address for nothing else.

We email you first to confirm. Alerts come from Eleven Plus Academy, not the school. Privacy policy.

The two papers

Paper 1: English and Verbal ReasoningProvided by GL Assessment. The council does not publish the length of the paper or the number of questions.
Paper 2: Mathematics and Non-Verbal ReasoningProvided by GL Assessment. The council does not publish the length of the paper or the number of questions.

Two subjects on each paper

Each paper covers two subjects, so your child has to switch between them. It helps to practise English with verbal reasoning, and maths with non-verbal reasoning, in the same sitting.

You register in Year 5

The council says you must register for the test when your child is in Year 5, and the test takes place in Year 6. This year registration closed on 15 June, three months before the test.

Where you live matters

The council's page says your child must live in the 11 plus common catchment area, which is shown as a blue lined area on the Redbridge Maps website. Check your address there before you start preparing.

Familiarisation materials

The council points families to GL Assessment's free materials to get used to the format and style of the questions. It adds that the 11 plus can vary between areas, so the free materials might not match the exact test your child will take.

Five Redbridge 11 plus-style sample questions

These are our own questions, written in the style of the test so you can see the level. They are not taken from any real paper. Tap a question to see the answer and the method.

1. A recipe uses 250 g of flour to make 10 biscuits. How many grams of flour are needed for 36 biscuits?
  • A) 750
  • B) 860
  • C) 900
  • D) 925
Answer: C) 900. Find the flour for one biscuit: 250 ÷ 10 = 25 g. Multiply by 36: 25 × 36 = 900 g.
2. What is the mean of 7, 12, 15 and 22?
  • A) 13
  • B) 14
  • C) 15
  • D) 16
Answer: B) 14. Add the numbers: 7 + 12 + 15 + 22 = 56. Divide by how many there are: 56 ÷ 4 = 14.
3. Which word is a conjunction in this sentence? We stayed indoors because the rain was heavy.
  • A) stayed
  • B) indoors
  • C) heavy
  • D) because
Answer: D) because. A conjunction joins two parts of a sentence. Because joins "We stayed indoors" to "the rain was heavy". Stayed is a verb, indoors is an adverb and heavy is an adjective.
4. In a code, CAT is written as DBU. Using the same code, how is PIG written?
  • A) QJH
  • B) QHJ
  • C) OHF
  • D) RJH
Answer: A) QJH. Each letter moves on one place in the alphabet: C to D, A to B, T to U. So P becomes Q, I becomes J and G becomes H, giving QJH.
5. Which word is closest in meaning to brisk?
  • A) quiet
  • B) quick
  • C) heavy
  • D) short
Answer: B) quick. Brisk means fast and lively, as in a brisk walk. Quick is closest. The other words do not mean fast.
