We check the official admissions pages every morning. When registration, test dates or results are announced, we'll send you a short email saying what changed and where to find it. We use your address for nothing else.

The papers

Paper One: English comprehension and verbal reasoningAbout 50 minutes.
Paper Two: non-verbal reasoning and mathsAbout 50 minutes, in the same session after a short supervised break.

A paper test with a separate answer sheet

Quest says the Slough Consortium 11+ is a paper test. It says most of its 11+ papers use an answer sheet that is read by machine: instead of writing out an answer, your child draws a horizontal line through a box next to the answer they choose. It is worth practising this so that marking the sheet is not new on the day.

How long the day takes

The two papers last about 50 minutes each. Quest says the total time in the test centre, including settling in, instructions, papers and breaks, is typically around two to three hours.

Free materials from Quest

Quest lists free familiarisation booklets for English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, guidance written for children, recommended reading lists and a vocabulary list. It also lists free access to Atom Home for candidates eligible for pupil premium.

What is not published yet

When we checked, Quest's page gave months, not exact days, for registration, the test and results. It did not say how scores are standardised or what score a child needs. Each of the four schools has its own admissions office, and Quest's page gives their contact details.

Five Slough Consortium-style sample questions

These are our own questions, written in the style of the test so you can see the level. They are not taken from any real paper. Tap a question to see the answer and the method.

1. A coach leaves Slough at 07:50. The journey takes 2 hours 35 minutes. At what time does it arrive?
  • A) 10:15
  • B) 10:25
  • C) 10:35
  • D) 09:25
Answer: B) 10:25. Add the 2 hours first: 07:50 becomes 09:50. Then add 35 minutes: 10 minutes takes you to 10:00, and the other 25 minutes take you to 10:25.
2. Which word is most opposite in meaning to feeble?
  • A) weak
  • B) tired
  • C) gentle
  • D) sturdy
Answer: D) sturdy. Feeble means lacking strength. Sturdy means strong and solid, so it is the opposite. Weak is close in meaning to feeble, not opposite.
3. A cube is a solid shape with 6 square faces. How many edges does a cube have?
  • A) 8
  • B) 10
  • C) 12
  • D) 16
Answer: C) 12. Picture a box. There are 4 edges round the top, 4 edges round the bottom and 4 upright edges joining them. 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. A cube has 8 corners, which is a different thing.
4. Which word best completes this sentence? The climbers were ___ after their long walk, so they went straight to bed.
  • A) exhausted
  • B) excited
  • C) curious
  • D) generous
Answer: A) exhausted. Going straight to bed after a long walk tells you they were very tired. Exhausted means very tired. The other words do not explain why they went to bed.
5. Three of these words belong together. Which is the odd one out?
  • A) oak
  • B) birch
  • C) tulip
  • D) willow
Answer: C) tulip. Oak, birch and willow are all trees. A tulip is a flower, so it is the odd one out.
